Cherish Postnatal Services is a Postnatal Doula service available to mothers and families in the Adelaide Hills and other suburbs of Adelaide. I am also one of the few Blessingway facilitators in Adelaide.
A Postnatal Doula’s primary role is to ‘mother the mother’ during the “fourth trimester”- those first three months after the birth of a baby. This is a time when a mother is intensively engaged in meeting the often demanding needs of her newborn baby with little time or energy to ensure her own basic needs are being met. A Postnatal Doula supports the newborn mother by assessing her needs, whether she needs a break from baby to shower and change, advice on baby care, breastfeeding support or even making the mounting pile of dishes disappear. With the support of your postnatal doula you can relax and enjoy being with your new baby.
The women I have worked with have all commented on the calming, gentle presence I bring to their homes and families in the often overwhelming and chaotic first days with their new baby. Over the years I have come to realise that women need more than a cleaner or nanny, they need someone who can help them proactively move toward healing and recovery from their birth so they can feel strong and supported to do the hard work of mothering. I do this using the wisdom of Ayurvedic healing techniques, massage and couselling.
Make the most of this precious time and have the confidence to enjoy every fleeting moment, with the right support you can make the first six weeks of your baby's life the best weeks of your life too.

I have worked with first time mothers and mothers with toddlers and other children and know first hand that every mother's situation and needs are different. Some Mums need more practical help and support, keeping the house in order and distracting the toddler so mum and baby can have some one on one time. Other families have required more emotional support and assistance with breastfeeding and settling techniques. Most importantly I've been told that my lactation cookies are to die for!
I have also worked with women whose babies are a little older and are feeling overwhelmed by new parenthood and are looking for some extra support. Feeding issues, a sensitive baby or traumatic birth experience and recovery can leave mothers reeling and feeling unsure and disappointed. Even if you haven't organised postnatal support before the birth of your baby its not too late to do so now.
It is normal for pregnant women to be filled with questions that really can't be answered until baby is finally in your arms; will I be able to breastfeed? What if the baby is unsettled and I don't know what to do? What about nappies, baby wearing, bottles or breast pumps? Where can I go for further help if I need it?
As your doula I am there to support and guide you and give you the strength to trust your own instincts when it comes to the care of your baby. You may be wondering if this service is for you, would you feel comfortable with another person in your home at this special time? A doula isn't another visitor, instead they make space for you to relax and enjoy bonding with your new family member.
